We spotted the first wild Monarch of the season on 2/29/00 at South Shore Harbour Marina Townhomes N 29 32 .872 W 095 04.069----a small residential island community on Clear Lake in League City, Texas. ( 30 miles south of Houston) The large female appeared in good shape--not tattered but faded. She visited the Ac plants that we planted in our garden and deposited five eggs---I followed her on foot as she headed to a a nearby
wooded area---no apparent milkweed-but lots of blooming food plants. In the woods, I found three monarchs--could not get close - a large black & yellow swallowtail, three Painted Ladies, and several Buckeye butterflies. Since then, we have seen Monarchs every day around the Clear Lake, Texas area---some appear to be in no hurry to move Northward.
