Two monarchs were sighted in a downtown park in Austin (lat.30.3; long. 97.7) on 1 March. One was flittering about low to the ground, testing plants, exhibiting the usual hunt for an oviposition site. The other was nectaring on Sophora - the so called Texas Mountain Laurel. Another monarch was seen on 8 March in the same park apparently nectaring on a grape blossom!
Since I was eating my lunch and had neglected to bring my net, none of the three were captured. But none looked especially worn.
