We saw dozens of Monarchs migrating north in the Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, Mexico area beginning 3/14/00. We had been in the area since 3/12, but observed the first Monarchs in Ejido San Jose above Gomez Farias in the El Cielo Reserve. On 3/15/00 we drove from Gomez Farias to Ciudad Victoria and saw many along Mexico Highway 85. There was a strong wind from the north, so most were collecting in sheltered low areas. We did not see any north of Cd Victoria on 3/15. On 3/14 we also observed two mating in flight in the Alta Cima area.
