Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 03/21/2000

Number: 1

It was on the lantana close to the asclepius: A Monarch
caterpillar that was, all the same, NOT a Monarch caterpillar.
We began to call it: The Anti-Monarch! The pigmentation was
much darker than the hues we were used to: Very dark instead
of the bright bands of green, yellow, white and black we were
used to, but all other features were very Monarch. We have
heard of this phenomenon from Texas and Michigan reporters on
Monarchwatch/Univ. Kansas, but no clear idea of what causes
this. Have you seen one???
