On Friday, March 24,2000, between the hours of 4:30 and 5:30 P.M. CST, we were able to count over 80 monarchs. They were flying above a field with Henbit, Vetch, and Singletary Pea - seemed to prefer the Singletary Pea. In this number we also counted 5 mating pairs. One female we caught was faded and worn, but others appear brightly colored.
On Saturday, March 25 a front passed through our area with a lot of rain in the area where we had counted the butterflies on Friday. During the same time period we were only able to count 33 monarchs - with only two mating pairs.
