Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/25/2000

Number: 1

Yesterday, Saturday, March 25, 2000, temperature mid 70's, partly sunny, a light
breeze from SW. We were out on a beautiful day, at about 12:30 pm having a little
aerobie (soft ring frisbee) exercise, when during a triumphant and heroic attempt at a
catch, I forsook out of my right eye, moving from left to right about 24 to 36 inches off
the ground, sort of bobbing, but moving hurriedly into my dormant veggie garden,
where some radish flowers awaited, along with other tidbits of a wild nature and lots of
dogwood and field and pine beyond. Yep, folks; I know I'm longwinded; but, it was,
after all, a first, a sighting for MW in Jones County, MS, of a rather handsome
Monarch. (Probably one of Joel's well fed New Orleans natives on spring break). The
sun was shining, and there was a gentle breeze from the SW and he was heading mostly
NEE. I wish I had had the camera in my hand instead of the aerobie, but he was
moving so fast, I couldn't have caught him on digital;
