Loon (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/26/2000

Number: 1

My students are trying to be aware of our local environment. We are trying to locate as many signs of spring as possible. I traveled on Sunday to Newport, RI. I saw 2 Loons coming in from the ocean. At the same location I also saw a Robin that was busy looking for worms. There was a lot of worm holes evident thoughout the grass area where we were. My student teacher announces to the class that her tulips have formed blossoms and are ready to burst open. One of my students who live near a vernal pool was very excited to share the fact that he heard Peepers on Saturday night. He said that his whole family was there and he was proud to tell me that he explained what the sound was and why it was so important. As a teacher this made me very proud.
