Our tulips began to bloom on Dr. Seuss's birthday, March 2. As of March 31, they were still in the process of blooming! Here are the facts about our tulips; maybe our student researchers can figure out why some tulips bloomed a full month ahead of the others.
We received our tulips in October, and waited for the first hard freeze to come so we could plant them. 3 of our 4 participating teachers kept their tulips in storage in the classroom; 1 teacher took hers home to store in the freezer.
Our first major freeze did not come until mid-January. We planted our tulips on Jan. 20, planting in the shapes of our school initials--FES.
On Feb. 25, we saw the first tulips peeking out. They were all in the "S"! Over the next few weeks, it became apparent that the tulips planted in the "S" and in half of the "E" were growing more rapidly than those in the "F" and other half of the "E"!
