I saw my first loon of the season today, although I suspect they've been here for awhile. (The bridge where I normally watch for them is under construction, so I haven't been able to look as frequently. Also, ice-out of Lake Minnetonka was unsually early this year--March 18th--two weeks ago. I often see the first loon before ice-out of the full lake, as the loons tend to gather in areas of open water.) I don't know if the migration is any earlie or faster paced this year, due to the very mild winter and early ice-out throughout the northern lakes.
