On 03/31/00 when my second grade gifted students met, they were very excited. One of my boys said that all eighteen tulips--the nine they had planted and the nine planted by the third grade gifted class had bloomed. He first noticed the blooms the previous day. I took the boys and girls on a tour of the memorial area where the Red Empress tulips had been planted. My second graders felt such a sense of ownership at the beautiful sight they saw!
