Bald Eagle

Date: 04/10/2000

Number: 1

Barbara Bruns, birder from Victoria, reported an eagle's nest visible from the Palmetto Bend Dam at the Lake Texana reservoir about 15 miles east of Victoria on Sunday night. This pair of Southern Bald Eagles had one nestling visible thru binoculars that was about ready to fledge. While they were watching both the male and female adult eagles returned at least once. She said there appeared to be no attempt to feed the young and that it could be seen exercising its wings several times. Southern Bald Eagles nest along the rivers in this part of the Texas Coastal Plain each winter with the young fledging in the spring.
