I noticed a fairly large monarch caterpillar on a texas milkweed (Asclepias texana) plant in my garden at 8:30 am. The plant had all of its leaves. I also noticed a mexican milkweed (Asclepias curassavica) nearby that was completely defoliated. The caterpillar must have moved over to the Texas milkweed after eating the other. I had been away just for a few days so I missed seeing the eggs & young larva. This evening there was one more monarch larva eating away on the texas milkweed!
