Yesterday (April 23) at 15:00 I saw my first monarch of the season I have a new (to me) house and it flew across the driveway- I thought it was a female very faded but not noticably worn- but I did not capture it- it left before I could pull out a net! At 18:00 I was walking in my (new) field and I think I came across a patch of A syracia - Only 6 inches tall with leaves opening and it "bled" milky white but could have been dogbane- anyway found no eggs at all- now have dogwood violets sweet william and one paw paw blooming the tree I could not identify blooming earlier was sassafrass(anyone know just how toxic/active the carcinogens in this-(S albidum) are?) and it has finished. The spicebush and lilacs at the old house are in full bloom as are the tazettas.
