Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 04/17/2000

Number: 1

This is from Voznesenka Village at the head of Kachemak Bay near Homer on the Kenai Peninsula. We heard our first robin singing near the school on the morning of Monday, April 17th. From that date until Wednesday, April 26 it was the only robin we heard, and it sang every morning all by itself. There is now another one singing, although quite a ways off. We saw a pair of robins at a slightly higher altitude on Sunday, April 23, but there are still
none singing in that area. The Varied Thrushes have moved in and are singing on all sides; they must have their territories pretty well defined by now. Yesterday a Fox Sparrow was heard singing for the first time, and this morning we heard two or three. Also this morning we heard a Junco singing for the first time. So far those are the only migratory songbirds that we have observed
were. Some cranes have been seen flying over (Monday, April 24) and we hear that a lot of ducks and others have shown up in the bay. Our feeders are still b
