Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/25/2000

Number: 1

My first sightings of a Monarch this season were on April 25, 2000 at a
place called Wiemer Hill within the boundaries of Taum Sauk State Park in
Iron County, Missouri. Taum Sauk Mountain is the highest point in Missouri by
the way. The several individuals seen were all very worn and faded. Most were
observed nectaring on false garlic (Nothoscordum bivalve) and wild hyacinth
(Camassia scilloides). The temperature was around 70-75 degrees, with sunny
skies and a 10-15 mph westerly wind.
