All Other Signs of Spring

One of the very few sad sights of spring in my part of the country is finding turtles which have been hit by cars. Today on my way to school I saw a huge snapping turtle- its shell was about the length of my keyboard long. I saw it near the town of Stirling near a small stream which empties into Rawdon Creek. The turtle had been hit by a car. I also saw a large painted turtle on Highway 62 north of Belleville on my way home. It was trying to cross the highway near a wetland. At the same location, I was able to witness a male Canada goose defending his mate and a rather large flock of goslings who were walking along the shoulder of the road. Every time a car came near, the male would raise his wings and approach the car...I hope he made it safely to the pond!
