Yesterday I sighted my second monarch of the season. This time I had a net but waited too long to try to capture it. It was a large very dark specimen that did not appear worn- I have never seen a queen this far north but am aware there are records so I am not certain of my ID- also no idea as to sex I saw it 4 miles south of Smithton, IL on IL route 159 to the west of the road headed east. Very breezy day.
