All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 05/07/2000

Number: 1

Yesterday we were on the shore of Parker River, in Newbury,MA; where the river goes out to Plum Island and then to the ocean. I saw a very tattered small (female?) Monarch flying low to the ground; being carried by the breeze. It was very warm (87 degrees) but I was amazed to see a Monarch this early; even though they have been sighted 90 minutes south of here; in Hamden,CT.

My milkweed patch (in Amherst,MA) came alive this weekend with the heat; most of the shoots are 6" high. So I'm ready for the Monarchs that always lay eggs in my garden!

Thanks for all the good work you do! Mary Garrity
