Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/09/2000

Number: 1

Contributed by Monarch Watch

This evening my children and I searched for Monarch eggs on common milkweed growing in a small patch in a grassy field in Valley Forge Historical Park, Valley Forge, PA. Two weeks go the milkweed was not even above ground in this area and now stands approx. 5-10 inches...and, Monarch eggs are present on at least half of the plants in this small patch!!!! Even though we have
not seen the adult butterfly yet, we'll visit this same patch of milkweed this weekend, with our eyes to the sky :) As my four year old observed, finding eggs means "The Monarchs are back!"
