Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/14/2000

Number: 1

Contributed by Monarch Watch

This morning my husband called me out to see my first monarch. It
was sitting in the grass and in the garden trying to warm itself
in the sun. The temp was 52 degrees with a 17 mph wind. It is
chilly up here in Wisconsin. It was a small male which was quite
faded and had lost some scales along the edge of its wings. Being
a male, I am going to keep watch to see if he is hanging around
waiting for a female. Waukesha is 20 miles west of Milwaukee, WI.
We received almost 4 inches of rain this past week and the milkweeds have really jumped out of the ground. Lilacs, columbine, bleeding hearts and some fruit trees are in bloom. The
butterflies missed the flowering crabs.
