Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/06/2000

Number: 1

Forwarded by Don Davis, Toronto, ON:

Darlene Bunn reports that good numbers of ruby-throated hummingbirds had arrived near her cottage at Mazinaw Lake near Cloyne, Ontario. This is rugged country in the Canadian Shield, the home of bear, deer, and dense forest. Access to her cottage is by boat only. Local cottagers have set up many feeders. There were so many hummingbirds that they were fighting over territory and the feeders. Hence, one was able to hear their high pitched squeaks and vocalizations as the fought for territory.
