Contributed by Monarch Watch
While on my hands and knees weeding flower gardens and searching for asclepias shoots, one Monarch (bright/fresh) was observed flying approx. one to three feet from the ground nectaring at dandelions May 4th. On May 5th Asclepias _ice ballet_ shoots had broken through soil and by evening were 5-6" tall. What hinted at a drought has, in May, grown to be flooding along the northeastern Illinois/Wisconsin border. (Lake County)
