The last migrating monarchs may now be out of the mid coastal area of Texas. We still see two or three monarchs daily, but they may be spending the summer now. A male we netted, wing marked, and released on Saturday May 20th was still around today. One and sometimes two males have been having aerial dog fights with him around the backyard. A female was seen late Friday, but only a few eggs were found. Predators are not allowing any larvae to make it past second instar going into summer now. After rain, new growth of Asclepias viridis blooming in area ... temps 88 to 93 dF, high humidity, daily seabreeze out of SE.
