Today - May 31 - in Elliot Lake (twenty miles north of the previously mentioned location) I saw a monarch at noon and then actually captured a female laying eggs on a small patch of milkweed 8 miles north of town this evening. I'll keep her company for a couple of days - but she's in great shape - some fading and scale loss but very strong and healthy.
