Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/09/2000

Number: 1

Every spring we order monarch larvae from the Univ. of Kansas
MonarchWatch program. We collect milkweed from our area to
feed them. Today when we were feeding them we noticed a tiny,
tiny one on the leaf. Apparently before we collected this bunch an
adult monarch had laid an egg which hatched in our classroon
unbeknowst to us! It was exciting as all but one of our caterpillars
had gone into chrysalis and the students were sad to "see them go"
now we can enjoy one a bit longer!!
