Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/13/2000

Number: 1

I am curious if any of the monarch watchers are seeing increased activity here in the south. The last few weeks have sent me atleast 6 monarchs a day. Most females look very ragged and are laying eggs every where. Of the 50 or so milkweeds I have, all have small catterpillars. The temperature hovers here at or above 100. My plants are filled with aphids and I am trying desperatley to save some of them from red wasps. I have never seen this much activity in the heat of the summer. I have always had a few monarchs around in the summer, but never this number or such activity with the females laying som many eggs.I'm wondering if the cooler temperatures in the north are sending some of them south sooner.
Would appreciate any response.
Very delighted and concerned.
