Very few monarchs have been seen passing through this garden at Lenoir Nature Preserve in the past few weeks. There were only two monarchs noted in the past few days, compared to many seen last year at this time.Monarchs were observed laying eggs in early August but were not collected. Three larvae had been collected in early July and raised in the Nature Center ,the resulting Monarchs released into the butterfly garden.
Our are has been sprayed for West Nile Virus three times during this season. I do not know of any effects on the eggs of larvae of the butterflies themselves.
