Signs of Fall

Date: 09/02/2000

Number: 1

We have had a "fall out" of Ruby-throated Hummingbirds along the mid-coast of Texas the last 48 hours. We just sit and watch out the glass door to the backyard. Late yesterday we could confirm from the video 45 hummers in a field of view of 45 d. Today the count has been least a hundred overhead in the trees and wires and plus the 65 that we could count. The cyclone fence looks like leaves ... the hummers stop and rest. The hummers will continue to stack up along the coast, some will move down the coast towards Mexico, most will take the leap and head across the Gulf. A headwing from the west contributed to this fallout.
