Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/06/2000

Number: 1

Today I found 3 monarch larva. Two are very big and appear to
be looking for a place to attach their buttons and begin the
unbelievable process of metamorphosis. The other is a bit smaller but eating leaf after leaf. It seems that the first day of fall will be a big day around here when it comes to monarch
butterflies. I have seen more monarch larva in the last 2 weeks
than I have in the last three years. Maybe all the rain has
helped the growth of milkweed. Whatever the case, it is great to
see so many larva and it looks like a late migration from
sw Ontario.
