I saw only one monarch butterfly in a farm field near Lakeview, Michigan in Montcalm County on 9/3/00. I did collect 6 monarch caterpillars on the same day. I brought them to my 2/3 grade classroom, and we were able to watch 3 of them change into their chrysalis stage. Five of them are in chrysalis, one more will probably make this change at the end of next
week.

What a wonderful site. I've recommended it to everyone I can.
I have asked our art teacher to do a lesson where my students will be making monarch betterflies to take part in the symbolic migration this fall. She is also having two other classes taking part. THis is a great reinforcement for my third graders and a great introduction for my 2nd graders who will be studying life cycles this year.
