Signs of Fall

Date: 09/10/2000

Number: 1

Ruby-throated Hummingbirds continue to stack up along the Texas coast in great numbers. Upwards to 200 are present at the same time in the back yard ... as many as 23 trying to nectar at the same feeder. We are using 25 feeders and feed three gallons of nectar a day. This morning Dr. Brent Ortega, with TPW, and his wife, licensed taggers, came, captured, tagged, examined, and released 80 RT and 1 Rufous hummingbirds in our back yard between 7:30 and 11 am. Dr. Ortega stated that all were in great shape and fat and were ready to head across the Gulf or continue down the coast. http://tex2k.homestead.com/sept10a.html
