The fall migration has begun to turn around for us here along the Texas Gulf coast ... whether migrants from just up the coast or farther to the N or NE is unknown. We have not seen a monarch for almost seven weeks and this weekend sighted three. The first was a handsome male yesterday that I was able to net, photo, measure, tag, and release at noon ... good shape, little fade, some scratches. A second was seen an hour later moving down the street from NNE to SSW. The third was a female today that was depositing eggs on backyard milkweed ... large, 55mm by 36mm, some fade, more tatter, many scratches. When released flew down the street towards the SSW.
