I discovered a young hummingbird at dawn this morning on our garden fence when I came to pick some raspberries. It was a cool morning, only about 50 degrees, and the hummer was so lethargic that I suspect I aroused it from torpor. While watching for migrating monarchs from our dock during the past week, I've seen several hummingbirds also crossing the lake--something I'd never notice if not watching so carefully.
