We haven't seen a lot of monarchs in the Williamston area, but when I was in Elberta, Michigan working at a camp in August, we found a great many monarchs on the Lake Michigan beach. They were scattered along the beach in big clumps. There were probably over a hundred in a fairly short stretch of beach. Not many were alive, and we couldn't tell if they had hatched near by and gotten caught in the wind and rain, or if they had come over the lake.
