Signs of Fall

Date: 09/13/2000

Number: 1

in the last week I have only seen four immature female ruby throated hummingbirds. they seem to be straglers. and are extreamly shy. they will not stay at a feeder or flowers if they see a person. if left alone they stay at the feeder for up to an hour. but are frequenty looking around. they seem to be rather agitated and are easily frightened off. most any movement, even another bird of any species, sends them flying. there are fewar and fewer. as the days pass. they are usually around here in mass untill about the 15th of September. it is unusual to have so few this early in the season .the first week of this month I usualy have to fill the feeders two or three times a week. this year I last filled them the 31 0f August, and they are still 3/4 full.
