I saw no Monarchs in Nashville from the beginning of June until the first week of August. Now I see 1 or 2 every day or so, nectaring on my butterfly bush. At our farm in Gallatin, TN, the milkweed is in full bloom and many Monarchs have been visiting them. We have collected hundreds of larvae from the plants to raise. Unfortunately,we have only been able to raise the newly-emerged-from-the-egg caterpillars. Those in later instars are already infested with the tach. fly and die every time. My brother has released approximately 80 butterflies in 2 events with his kindergarten class. I have raised, tagged, and released 10 Monarchs and have 13 more caterpillars still feeding. Of the 10 we released, 8 were female, 2 were male.
