Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/13/2000

Number: 1

Although I only observed a maximum of 5 monarchs nectaring on zinnias and butterfly bush, their appearance during the days of September 7-17,is within the same time frame I recorded first seeing multiple monarchs return to our corner of northwest Illinois last year. I began looking in early September and saw two on Sept 7th,three on the 8th & 9th, four on the 10th, zero on the 11th & 12th (high winds and rain), five on Sept 13-15, one on the 16th&17th. Two monarchs at the school garden emerged from their chrysalises on Sept.11th & 13th. Will continue to watch to see if the 17th will be the last monarch passing through to Mexico.
