Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/20/2000

Number: 1

i have visited jones beach on the south shore of long island
25 out of the last 30 days. in the past monarchs have started to
appear as early as mid-august and no later than september 1.
I HAVE NOT SEEN A SINGLE MONARCH. in the past, walks along the beach would lead to the discovery of many monarchs dead on the
tide line and others unable to fly due to spray soaked wings;
the latter i would attache to the hair on my arms and walk them to the upper beach where they would dry in the sun ,detach from
my arms and fly to the south. as stated, there are no monarchs to be seen,nor are there any in the dunes,scrub pines and heather
north of the barrier beaches.
