Signs of Fall

Date: 09/26/2000

Number: 1

After the cold front pushed through the Houston area this Monday, the ruby throated hummingbirds feeding at 5 feeders in
our back yard dropped from 20 to 3. The first birds arrived on
August 12, and the largest numbers feeding were during the 2nd week of September, too numerous to count accurately. 3 mature males remained for at least one month. Most seen just prior to the cold front were immature males, and only 2 mature females.
They seemed to have disappeared overnight, as Sunday evening the numbers seen were 12-15 and by Monday afternoon only 3.
