Monarchs finally arrive in Northeast MS. I counted 9 monarchs from 3 to 5 pm today along the Tenn-Tom Waterway near Peppertown, MS. Four were nectaring on goldenrod and the others were flying southwest from 5-15 feet above ground. Temps were in the low 80's with low humidity and east winds at 5-10 mph. Skies were mostly sunny. Nectar sources are very limited due to the prolonged severe drought conditions. Wildflowers are more abundant in the low areas along the Tenn-Tom Waterway.
