Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/02/2000

Number: 1

The numbers are increasing in the southward migration. I can't really give exact numbers because this year they are circling my yard and staying in the yard for hours. I saw maybe 25 or so. I went to the Garden Nursery and there were Monarchs all over the flowers there. The nurseryman and said they had been there for about 3 days and at his home in Bixby right nearby.
Also I have noticed that some of the Monarchs have damaged wings. I also found a dead Monarch in my yard with just the wings and no body left. I thought they were poisonous to birds. I feed birds in my yard also. Today the Monarchs stayed in my yard until evening. Usually in the past the main activity has been around 2:00 pm. This year they are staying longer. It is still very warm here - in the 90's. Our weather is about to change dramatically by Friday (morning expected 34 degrees).
