Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/06/2000

Number: 1

For the past 3 weeks, I have seen only 1-3 monarchs (maybe) when I was outside. This afternoon the sky is full of monarchs. I counted in the range of 25-50 monarchs flying over just 1 building in a 5 minute time span. We just had the 2nd cold front of the season come through last night, and I assume the monarchs are using the north wind to make part of the final push to Mexico. It is late afternoon and temps are in the upper 50's with winds in the 10-15 mph range from the north. The monarchs are heading in a southeast direction. I'm guessing the big migration is now reaching us.
