Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 10/09/2000

Number: 1

We are from Capitol Hill School in St. Paul, MN. Most of our butterflies flew South. Some flew North. Some butterflies did not fly away. Instead they dropped to the ground. Our class released about 18 Monarchs. We hatched them in our classroom beginning in early September. We raised them in special cases from when they were caterpillars. We took pictures of them and gave them names. We had fun with our Monarchs. We learned that male Monarchs have black dots on their hind wings. We also learned that Monarchs fly over two thousand miles! We also learned that Monarchs only lay one egg on the bottom of the milkweed plant. Monarchs are fascinating!
