Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/22/2000

Number: 1

On a trip to West Texas I kept track of Monarchs as we traveled over 600 miles from Houston to Ft Davis, Texas during peak migration on 10/22/2000. I reported the data east of here
on a previous report. Here I report where the numbers of
migration monarchs appeared to drop off in number.

The number of monarch sightings dropped drastically after we crossed the Pecos River at Sheffield. We sighted only six monarchs west of the Pecos River. Two were seen within a mile of the river. Then between 2 to 2:30 we saw 4 more flying south crossing Interstate 10 at mile markers 294, 276, 275, and 261.
This was the last sighting. Despite careful watch no more were seen west of mile marker 261.
