Tulips PLANTED

Date: 11/17/2000

Number: 1

The first graders at our school happily planted 25 tulip bulbs today in the midst of a gentle snowfall with an inch or so of snow accumulated on the ground! To our surprise, the soil beneath the grass sod that we dug up was still fairly warm. We even found angle worms crawling in it! We are a bit late this year, partly because I found only Orange Emperor tulips at the local supplier. I held off our planting experience with the hope that I would eventually find the red variety. I wasn't able to do so, so we finally planted the orange ones. We look forward to the coming of spring to see if our late planting affects the growth of the tulips in spring.
