Robin (First HEARD singing)

Date: 01/28/2001

Number: 1

The vast majority of robins in southern MS are wintering birds;a few are year-round residents and breed here. These days, it is not difficult for me to spend a morning in the field and find literally thuosands of robins. They tend to form large, though fairly loose flocks. There are typically no other species in these flocks, though sometimes a few Cedar Waxwings or Northern Flickers will be with them. Flock sizes can be upwards of 300-400 birds. On warm mornings, the males have been singing a lot lately.
