Hummingbird, Rufous (FIRST)

Date: 02/01/2001

Number: 1

Overwintering Hummingbirds: From a county birder: "A lucky and green-thumbed friend in Port Lavaca has a nice assortment of 2 male Rufous Hummingbirds, at least 2 Ruby-throateds, one very feisty Buff-bellied and a nectar addicted Orange-crowned Warbler." We have had a few hummingbird feeders out this winter for hummers that spent the winter here along the bay. We have also observed one male Rufous Hummingbird and one Buff-bellied Hummingbird plus an Orange-crowned Warbler visiting them this week. A hummingbird tagger with TPWD has reported at least forty different hummers visiting his feeders at home (Raisin, TX, west of Victoria) this winter.
