Robin (WAVE seen)

Date: 01/27/2001

Number: 1

I suspect that American Robins are starting to move north. I saw several flocks of them in the fall, in places I've often seen them before. Then none this winter, but there were many reports of them farther south, in the Rio Grande Valley.

Now I'm starting to see them again. One flock, of about 50 birds, was on the grounds of the Alamo Rock Shop on Interstate 10 between San Antonio and Boerne (a town about 30 miles northwest of SA), at around noon last Saturday, January 27. The area they were in is a typical tree-covered rural lawn, but I didn't pay attention to the types of trees or ground cover. I've often seen flocks of robins here in the past.
