Lake Shore Middle School,
I was out checking and filling bird feeders in our schools "BACK 40" and heard the mating song of the black-capped chickadee loud and clear. A week ago (02/03/01) in the same setting -- I heard the the cardinals mating song. The birds are getting anxious up here in Wisconsin.
My "true" first sign of spring, however, is the arrival of the Red-winged Blackbirds moving up from southern Illinois.
