Robins have been as common as Chickadees on my walks this winter. One very snowy day while walking through a swamp, who should I see but a Robin - I don't know what he
expected to find there to eat. Then last week here in the back yard - we've seen a Robin almost every day. The other day there were four of them foraging under the Arborvitae with the White throats. In front of the library in town here today, I saw several large trees with plenty of frozen little Crab Apples on them. The fact that they are frozen doesn't seem to bother the birds.
Come Spring - late April, they will begin to behave the way we are all familiar with Robins behaving. They'll patrol the yard looking for worms.
My husband, who is older tells me about times before we had Titmice around here and before there were Mockingbirds. Back yard bird feeding seems to have had an effect. I've been wondering about the fruit phenomena - are there more junk berries now than there used to be? That doesn't s
